So I finally got my hands one one! Well not exactly, my Parents bought me one at the beginning of the year and its still on back order, I’m not sure when I’ll actually get my hands on it but the Demand for this reader has the current wait time for new purchases at 5 to 7 weeks.
So why go with Amazon’s reader and not Sony’s? I decided I wanted Amazon’s device for a few reasons, first its Wireless connectivity enables you to shop the Kindle Store directly from the device, and even if you purchase a book from your computer on Amazon its still delivered to the kindle within a few minutes no matter where the device is via Whispernet, over Sprint’s EVDO network.
The wireless capability also gives you access to Wikipedia.org when your out away from a computer. I know what your thinking already, “Surely this wireless capability is going to included a monthly fee.” we’ll you’d be wrong, the cost of the service is included in the cost of the device.
Amazon will also keep track of your purchases so in the unfortunate case of your kindle getting lost or even stolen while you will have to purchase a new unit. Amazon will transfer all your purchases to your device, and considering the device can hold 200 books the cost of media can add up real fast. I really like the security of knowing my media is safe even if my kindle isn’t.
The battery time is pretty amazing as well with the wireless turned on you should only need to recharge the device once every 2 hours or so and if you choose to turn it off you should be good for a week or more, also a full charge only takes 2 hours to achieve.
I’m kinda going on what I’ve already researched on the device since I don’t actually have the device yet. But as soon as I do get it I’ll be sure to write a follow up article reviewing the device.
