iMacYep, you read right. As many of my friends have put it, “I’ve fallen to the dark side”. For years I’ve always told myself, “I’ll never own a mac”. My Step-Dad attended a seminar last October, and quite an expensive one I might add, costing $5,000 if I remember correctly. However, everyone that attended that seminar not only walked away with newfound knowledge, but also a brand spanking new MacBook. Too bad it wasn’t a Macbook Pro. Over the next few months, he spent the time learning and falling in love with Apple computing at its best. I played with it a few times when visiting the family up north and was fairly impressed. However I still retained the “I’ll never own a mac” mindset.

My sister just started attending college. To assist with this my Step-Dad purchased her a 20″ iMac as she was having trouble with her PC (You know Windows). My sister plays World of Warcraft with me from time to time. But now that she has an iMac she didn’t know how to install the game. She only had the disks for the PC version. This past weekend I went to visit, so I went ahead and downloaded the Mac client for her. 30 hours and 3.16 Gigs later (As I was constantly reminded of by my Step-Dad because it bogged down the DSL – he’s now sold on getting cable internet access, Expecially when he found out I downloaded the client in 3 Hours) we had the game installed. During this time I played around with the system and fell in love with it. The next day I took a trip to the Apple store in Fresno.

Now I find myself a happy iMac owner.

  • 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 1GB memory
  • 320GB hard drive
  • 8x double-layer SuperDrive
  • ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory

Although I have to say my favorite part about this entire system is the display:

  • 24-inch (viewable) glossy widescreen TFT active-matrix liquid crystal display
  • Resolution: 1920 by 1200 pixels
  • Typical viewing angle, 178° horizontal, 178° vertical

I’ve been toying around with the Idea of building a media center PC for the past few months. I also just purchased a High Definition 61″ Television. Looking over the features of my PS3 I noticed something special. Why take the time to build a new PC to act as a Media center when I could simply install a Linux distribution on my Playstation 3 along with MythTV?

MythTVAnd so dawns my next project. I’ll be partitioning a mere 10 Gigs of the PS3 Hard disk.

I know what your thinking already.

“How are you going to fit all your music and movies onto 10 Gigs?”

Well, this is the fun part. You see, I have the 60Gig model and I was thinking that same exact question. Only the other way around, because the playstation gives you 3 options when formating the drive.

  • Format 10Gigs for the PS3
  • Format 10Gigs to another OS
  • Format the entire disk for the PS3

Now for my version of the above question.

“How am I going to fit all my music and movies onto 50 Gigs?”
